Ingredients You'll Need

  • Fresh Lemon Juice: The key ingredient for classic lemonade flavor. Always use freshly squeezed juice for the best taste. Lime juice can be used as a substitute if needed.
  • Granulated Sugar: Balances the tartness of the lemons. Adjust the amount based on the sweetness of your fruit and your personal preference.
  • Filtered Water: Helps mellow and balance the strong, concentrated flavors of the lemon.

How to Make Fresh Lemonade Juice

Note: The full instructions are provided in the recipe card below.

  1. Squeeze enough lemons to get 2 cups of fresh juice (about 8 to 12 lemons).
  2. Strain the juice through a fine-mesh strainer to remove seeds and pulp.
  3. Pour the strained juice into a large pitcher.
  4. Add 8 cups of filtered water and 1 cup of granulated sugar.
  5. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  6. Taste and adjust the sweetness or tartness as needed.
  7. Add the lemon slices to the pitcher.
  8. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving, or serve immediately over ice.

Storage & Make Ahead

Storage: Store leftover lemonade in a covered pitcher or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Stir well before serving, as natural separation may occur.

Make Ahead: While homemade lemonade is best enjoyed fresh, you can make it up to 1 day in advance and keep it refrigerated. For the best flavor, stir again just before serving and add ice at the last minute.

Camila's Tips & Variations

  • Roll your lemons before juicing to extract the most juice from each one
  • Use simple syrup instead of granulated sugar for a smoother texture and quicker mixing
  • Strain for clarity if you prefer pulp-free lemonade
  • Adjust to taste by adding more sugar for sweetness or more lemon juice for a tangier flavor
  • Add fresh herbs like mint for a refreshing twist
  • Make it sparkling by adding sparkling water or club soda in place of still water, just before serving.
