    Equipment

    • saucepan
    • Measuring cups

    Ingredients

    • One 2-inch piece of ginger , peeled and sliced into thin coins
    • 1 cup honey or granulated sugar
    • 1 cup water

    Instructions

    • Heat the honey or sugar and water in a small, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. When the sugar is completely dissolved, about 5 minutes, stir in the ginger and remove from heat. Let the ginger steep until the syrup is completely cool. Remove the ginger and transfer the syrup to an airtight container. Refrigerate until ready to use for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy!

    Notes

    How to Store & Re-Heat
    • To store: Honey ginger syrup, transfer it to a clean, airtight jar or bottle, and refrigerate it. The syrup can last up to a month in the refrigerator, but the flavor may degrade after a week or two.
    • To reheat: Remove it from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature. Alternatively, you can heat the syrup gently in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it is warmed through. Be careful not to overheat the syrup, which can cause the sugars to caramelize and change the flavor.
    Make-Ahead
You can make the honey ginger syrup ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use. The syrup will keep well for up to a month in a tightly sealed jar or bottle. You can also prepare the ginger slices ahead of time and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. When you're ready to make the syrup, this can save time, as you can measure the ginger slices and start cooking.
