Chocolate Caliente Cremoso is a rich, creamy hot chocolate known for its thick, silky texture and deep chocolate flavor.

Jump to
Unlike regular hot cocoa, which is thinner and lighter, this version is more luxurious, velvety, and intensely chocolatey.
This Chocolate Caliente Cremoso recipe keeps all the classic richness we love in a creamy hot chocolate, using just a few simple ingredients most of us already have at home.
It combines 50% cocoa powder (or unsweetened 100% cocoa powder for a less-sweet, more-intense chocolate flavor), Nesquik chocolate powder, heavy cream, sugar, and milk to create a hot chocolate that's thick, smooth, and incredibly comforting.
It's the ideal cozy drink for cold days-easy to make at home with a café-style finish and unbeatable chocolate flavor. ☕
Ingredients You'll Need
Note: See the recipe card for quantities.
- 50% cocoa powder: Makes the Chocolate Caliente Cremoso sweeter, milder, and creamier, giving it a classic, kid-friendly flavor. It can be swapped for Hershey's unsweetened 100% cocoa powder if you prefer a deeper, less-sweet chocolate flavor-just adjust the sugar as needed.
- Nesquick Chocolate powder: Balances cocoa's bitterness with sweetness, giving the drink its classic hot chocolate taste.
- Heavy cream: Makes the mixture silky and naturally thicker with just 1 minute of boiling.
- Sugar: Sweetens the drink without overpowering the chocolate.
- Milk: Thins the mix to the perfect drinkable consistency while keeping it smooth and creamy.
How to Make Chocolate Caliente Cremoso
Note: Full instructions are provided in the recipe card below.
- Add the cocoa powder, chocolate powder, and a portion of the heavy cream to a saucepan. Mix until smooth, gradually adding more heavy cream until fully incorporated and no lumps remain.
- Add the remaining heavy cream and the sugar, and mix well.
- Pour in the milk and stir until the mixture is completely smooth.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
- Once it reaches a boil, let it cook for 1 minute to thicken.
- Remove from the heat and serve immediately. You may add chocolate chips on top if desired.

Hint: Mixing 50% cocoa powder with sweetened chocolate powder such as Nesquik creates the perfect balance-deep chocolate flavor that stays smooth, creamy, and delicious.
Storage, Make Ahead, & Freezing
Storage: Keep any leftover creamy hot chocolate in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, stirring until smooth. If it thickens too much after chilling, add a splash of milk to restore its silky consistency.
Make Ahead & Freezing: I don't recommend making this ahead or freezing it.
Camila's Tips & Variations
- Adjust sweetness: Add more sugar after cooking if you prefer a sweeter hot chocolate. The base recipe is balanced so everyone can sweeten their cup to taste.
- Flavor variations: Add a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, or even a dash of instant espresso for deeper flavor.
- Add extra chocolate: For a richer cup, stir in a small spoonful of few chocolate chips directly into your mug before pouring the hot chocolate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use only cocoa powder instead of mixing two chocolates?
You can, but the flavor will be more intense and less sweet. The combination of 50% cocoa powder + sweetened chocolate powder gives the best balance of richness and creaminess.
Can I use plant-based milk?
Absolutely. Oat milk, almond milk, or soy milk work well, but the texture may be slightly thinner.
What if I want it sweeter?
Taste after cooking and add more sugar as needed. Different chocolate powders also vary in sweetness.
