How to Make Sweet Chili Sauce

Note: The full instructions are provided in the recipe card below.

Add all the ingredients except the cornstarch to a blender and blend until smooth. In a medium nonstick pan over medium-high heat, add the mixture and bring it to a boil, stirring constantly. Next, turn to medium heat and cook for 5 more minutes, stirring constantly. Then, turn to medium-low heat. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with two tablespoons of water until fully dissolved; pour into the pan, and simmer, occasionally stirring, until the sauce is thickened about 1 to 2 minutes.

(Remember that the sauce will further thicken once it cools). Taste the sauce and adjust the taste by adding more sugar if not sweet enough or more vinegar if not sour enough. If the Spicy Sweet Chili Sauce turns out too thick, mix in a few spoons of water to thin it out while it's still hot. Pour the Spicy Sweet Chili Sauce into a bowl and sit until thoroughly cooled. Serve it as a dipping sauce or store it in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 5 days. Enjoy!

    Notes

    How to Store & Re-Heat
To store: Let it cool down to room temperature and then transfer it to an airtight container such as a glass jar or a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. Store the container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The sauce will thicken as it cools and might become slightly more concentrated in flavor. When you're ready to use the sauce, take it out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften.
To reheat: You can either warm it up in a small saucepan over low heat, constantly stirring until it reaches your desired consistency or microwave it in a microwave-safe container for 20-30 seconds, stirring halfway through. Remember that the sauce might thicken or separate when reheated, so you might need to add a few spoons of water and whisk it together to bring it back to its original texture. Be careful not to overheat the sauce, as it might lose flavor or become too runny.
    Make-Ahead
The Sweet Chili Sauce can be made and stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, making it a great option for meal prep or entertaining. Follow the recipe instructions and let the sauce cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container. Label the container with the date and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use. When you're ready to serve the sauce, take it out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften. If the sauce has thickened too much, add a few spoons of water and whisk it together to bring it back to its original texture.
