Made with self-rising flour and thick plain Greek yogurt, they are quick, easy, and incredibly soft.

Whether you're pairing them with coffee or your favorite meals or enjoying them on their own, you'll love how simple this recipe is!

With just two ingredients, they come together in no time and are versatile enough to complement any dish.

These dinner rolls pair perfectly with soups, stews, or a quick snack with butter or jam.

Ingredients You'll Need

Note: See the recipe card for quantities.

  • Self-Rising Flour: This key ingredient includes a blend of flour, baking powder, and salt, which helps the dough rise without needing additional leavening agents, ensuring a soft and fluffy texture.
  • Plain Greek Yogurt: Adds moisture and a slight tang to the dough, helping bind the ingredients together. Its thickness keeps the rolls tender and soft.

How to Make 2-Ingredient Dinner Rolls

Note: Full instructions are provided in the recipe card below.

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Lightly flour the pan as well.
  2. Mix the dough: In a medium bowl, combine the self-rising flour and plain Greek yogurt. Stir with a rubber spatula until a slightly sticky dough forms. Let the dough sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Shape the rolls: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Shape it into a flat disc, then divide it into 8 equal portions. Lightly dust each piece with flour and roll them into balls.
  4. Bake the rolls: Arrange the dough balls in the greased pan, leaving space between each. Bake for 25 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden brown.
  5. Cool and serve: Let the rolls cool in the pan for 15 minutes before serving.

Storage, Make Ahead, & Freezing

  • Storage: Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Make Ahead: You can make the dough a few hours ahead and refrigerate it until ready to bake.
  • Freezing: To freeze, let the dinner rolls cool completely. Place them in a ziplock bag, squeezing out as much air as possible. They'll keep well in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw them in the refrigerator overnight or leave them at room temperature until softened.

Camila's Tips & Variations

  • No self-rising flour on hand? For this recipe, you can easily make your own by sifting together 300g of all-purpose flour, 4 teaspoons of baking powder, ¼ teaspoon of baking soda, and ½ teaspoon of fine salt. Then whisk thoroughly until everything is well combined, and use as directed in the recipe. Note: Baking soda is optional-it's just for extra lift and can be left out if you don't have it.
  • Add a Savory Twist: Mix in a pinch of herbs like rosemary, thyme, or garlic powder to the dough for a flavorful, savory variation.
  • Cheese Lovers: Add a handful of shredded cheddar or Parmesan to the dough for cheesy dinner rolls.
  • Versatile Dough: This dough is flexible! Use it to make pizza crusts, buns, pretzels, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my dough too sticky to handle?

If the dough feels too sticky, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of extra self-rising flour and gently mix it in. Be careful not to overwork the dough, as this can affect the texture of the rolls.

My dinner rolls didn't rise enough. What went wrong?

The rise in this recipe comes from the self-rising flour, not yeast. Make sure your self-rising flour is fresh, as older flour may lose its effectiveness and won't provide the proper lift.

Why are my dinner rolls not browning?

For better browning, consider brushing the tops with a little melted butter or olive oil before baking. If they still aren't browning, double-check your oven temperature to make sure it's hot enough.
