    • 2 scoops of good quality vanilla bean ice cream , such as Häagen-Dazs
    • ¼ cup *(good quality) hot espresso or brewed coffee
    • Chocolate shavings , optional

    Optional:

    • Spike it with ½ tablespoon Kahlúa , amaretto, Frangelico, cognac, Grand Marnier, or other liqueur of your choice.

    Instructions

    • In a cup or a shallow bowl, add two scoops of ice cream. Then, pour the fresh brew espresso or coffee over the ice cream. Drizzle with Kahlúa, if desired.

    Notes

    How to Store & Re-Heat
If you have leftover Affogato, it's best to consume it immediately as it may not be suitable for storing due to the melted ice cream. However, if you must store it, you can place it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a day.
When ready to reheat, remove the container from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to soften the ice cream slightly. Then, you can reheat the coffee or espresso in the microwave or stove until it's hot. Pour the hot coffee or espresso over the ice cream and sprinkle with the chocolate shavings.
    Make-Ahead
Since Affogato is a dessert meant to be enjoyed immediately after preparation, there may be better options for making ahead. However, you can still prepare some dish components beforehand to save time. For example, you can brew the coffee or espresso and let it cool to room temperature before storing it in an airtight container in the fridge. You can also shave the chocolate and store it in an airtight container at room temperature until you're ready to use it.
As for the ice cream, it's best to leave it in the freezer until ready to serve to ensure that it stays frozen and doesn't melt. Then, when you're ready to serve, scoop the ice cream into bowls, pour the coffee or espresso on top, add the liqueur (if desired), sprinkle with the chocolate shavings, and enjoy!
