How to Make Dulce de Leche Candy

  1. Combine dry milk and dulce de leche in a large mixing bowl.

  • Knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
  • Transfer to a lightly buttered surface.
  • Press dough into an 8x6-inch rectangle, ½ inch thick.

  1. Cut into squares.

  1. Place on a parchment-lined tray and let sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Enjoy and store leftovers in an airtight container.

Camila's Tips and Variations

  • If the dough becomes too soft, add more milk powder. If it becomes too stiff, add more dulce de leche. Be careful not to overdo the milk powder (NIDO), as it can make the candy tough. 
  • Mix in ½ cup chopped nuts or dried fruit for extra texture and taste.
  • Roll the finished squares in shredded coconut for a tropical twist.
  • Add a few drops of vanilla or almond extract to the mixture for additional flavor.
  • Mix in cinnamon or cocoa powder into the dough for a different flavor.
  • For easier cutting, use a plastic knife or plastic bench scraper to cut the candy.

    Ingredients
      

    • 200 g Nido dry whole milk
    • 200 g La Lechera canned dulce de leche

    Instructions
     

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry milk and dulce de leche. Stir with a spoon until the mixture starts to come together.
    • Using gloves, knead the mixture until it forms a soft, pliable, and smooth dough.
    • Transfer the dough to a clean, lightly buttered working surface.
    • With lightly buttered gloves or hands, press the dough into a rectangle approximately 8x6 inches and an even ½- inch thickness. Cut the dough into small squares.
    • Place the shaped candy onto a parchment-lined tray and let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
    • Once the candy has set, enjoy.
    • Store any leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to two weeks.
