Ingredients

  • cups freshly squeezed lemon juice , from 8-12 lemons, strained
  • 6 cups filtered water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  • Squeeze enough lemons to obtain 1¾ cups of freshly squeezed lemon juice, about 8 to 12 lemons, depending on their size and juiciness. Strain the lemon juice through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any seeds or pulp.
  • In a large Pitcher, pour the strained lemon juice. Add 6 cups of filtered water to the bowl with the lemon juice. Next, add 1 cup of granulated sugar to the mixture. You can adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preferences.
  • Stir the mixture using a long-handled spoon or whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved. Make sure to taste the lemonade and adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar, lemon juice, or water if needed.
  • Once the lemonade is well mixed and adjusted to your liking, you can pour it into glasses filled with ice cubes. Optionally, garnish each glass with a lemon wedge for presentation and an additional burst of lemon flavor.

Notes

How to Serve
When serving homemade lemonade, here are some suggestions to enhance the presentation and overall experience:
  • Chilled Glasses: Make sure your glasses or serving cups are chilled before pouring in the lemonade. You can place them in the refrigerator or fill them with ice water for a few minutes to ensure they are cool.
  • Ice Cubes: Add ice cubes to the glasses before pouring in the lemonade. This helps keep the drink cold and refreshing. You can use regular ice cubes or get creative with flavored or decorative ice cubes, such as ones made with fruit juice or edible flowers.
  • Garnishes: Enhance the visual appeal and flavor of the lemonade by garnishing each glass. Place a lemon wedge on the rim of the glass or drop it into the drink. You can add other fruit slices, herbs (such as mint or basil), or edible flowers for an elegant touch.
  • Straws or Stirrers: Provide straws or stirring sticks alongside the glasses to allow guests to mix the lemonade and enjoy it thoroughly.
  • Beverage Dispenser or Pitcher: If you're serving lemonade for a larger gathering or buffet-style setting, consider using a beverage dispenser or a pitcher with a spout. This makes it easier for guests to serve themselves and keeps the lemonade readily available.
  • Accompanying Refreshments: Lemonade pairs well with various snacks or treats. Consider serving it with a platter of fresh fruit, cheese, crackers, or small finger foods to complement the flavors and create a complete refreshment spread.
Remember to keep the lemonade chilled until serving time, and periodically stir or mix it if it sits for an extended period to ensure the flavors remain well-distributed.
How to Store
  • Refrigerator Storage: Transfer the lemonade to a clean and airtight container, such as a pitcher with a lid or a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Ensure that the container is clean and sanitized before use.
  • Seal Tightly: Make sure the container is sealed tightly to prevent air, odors, or contaminants from entering. This helps maintain the freshness and quality of the lemonade.
  • Store in the Refrigerator: Place the container of lemonade in the refrigerator. The cool temperature helps preserve the flavor and freshness. Keep it away from strong-smelling foods that may affect its taste.
  • Duration of Storage: Homemade lemonade can typically be stored in the refrigerator for 3 days. However, it is best to consume it within the first 1-2 days for optimal taste and quality.
  • Stir Before Serving: Before serving the stored lemonade, give it a good stir to ensure that any settled sugar or ingredients are evenly distributed. This will help maintain a consistent flavor throughout.
  • Individual Servings: If you have leftover lemonade in glasses, cover them with plastic wrap or use airtight lids to seal each glass individually before placing them in the refrigerator.
Make-Ahead
  • Prepare the Lemonade: Follow the recipe instructions to make the mixture by combining freshly squeezed lemon juice, water, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, and adjust the taste as needed.
  • Transfer to a Container: Once the lemonade is ready, transfer it to a suitable container with a tight-fitting lid. A pitcher or airtight container works well. Make sure the container is clean and sanitized.
  • Refrigerate: Place the container of lemonade in the refrigerator to chill. This allows the flavors to meld together and the lemonade to become thoroughly cold.
  • Store Properly: To maintain freshness and quality, refrigerate the lemonade until you're ready to serve it. Lemonade can generally be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but it's best to consume it within 1-2 days for the freshest taste.
  • Stir Before Serving: Before serving the pre-made lemonade, give it a good stir to ensure that any settled sugar or ingredients are evenly distributed. This will help maintain a consistent flavor throughout.
  • Serve and Garnish: Pour the chilled lemonade into glasses filled with ice cubes. Add lemon wedges, mint leaves, or other desired garnishes for presentation and additional flavor if desired.
