  • Preheat the oven to 375 °F. Line with parchment paper a 9-inch round cake pan or grease with butter or nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Toss in the cold butter. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture is crumbly, with some pea-size clumps of butter within. Add the cheese and toss to combine. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the egg. Add to the dry ingredients and stir until everything is just moistened. Do not over-mix!
  • Transfer the sticky dough to the prepared pan. Dust your hands with flour and press the dough to the edges of the pan. Bake, the bread for 35 - 40 minutes or until golden brown and a cake tester comes out clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then turn it out onto a rack to cool. How to Store & Re-Heat
  • To store: Wrap the bread tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store it at room temperature for up to 2 days. If you want to store it longer, you can freeze the bread for up to 1 month. To freeze, wrap the bread tightly in plastic, aluminum foil, or a freezer-safe bag.
  • To reheat:  Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for about 5-10 minutes or until heated. Alternatively, you can slice the bread and toast it in a toaster oven or under the broiler for a few minutes until warm and crispy.
Make-Ahead
To make ahead, follow the recipe instructions to prepare the dough, then transfer it to the prepared pan and wrap it tightly with plastic wrap. Store the bread in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking. When ready to bake, remove the bread from the fridge and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Then, bake according to the recipe instructions. 
How to Freeze
To freeze the bread, wrap it tightly in plastic, aluminum foil, or a freezer-safe bag. Freeze for up to 1 month. When you're ready to enjoy the bread, remove it from the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature for a few hours or overnight. Then, reheat it in the oven or toaster oven according to the reheating instructions.
