Ingredients

  • 3 pounds of chicken wings , cut in half at joints, wing tips removed

For the Marinade:

For Glaze Chinese Chicken Wings:

  • ¼ cup honey
  • Tools you'll need
  • Small Bowl
  • Ziploc Bag
  • Coal
  • Pastry Brush

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients for the marinade. Add chicken wings into a large Ziploc bag. Pour in the marinade. Massage a few times to disperse the marinade evenly. Let marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.

For Grill Chinese Chicken Wings:

  • Set up a two-zone fire.
  • Set up your coals in a two-zone configuration. Light your coals and pile them all onto one side of your grill, leaving the other side empty. You’ll sear the wings on the hot side and let them finish cooking through on the cool side.
  • Sear the wings on all sides to get a nicely browned, crispy skin.*(Chicken skin burns quickly, particularly when the marinade or rub contains high amounts of sugar. So watch them closely and turn them and turn them often to prevent scorching).
  • Once browned on all sides, move the wings over to the cool side of the grill to finish cooking through. Place the lid on the grill and let them cook until the wings reach a safe internal temperature of 165 °F. *(In general, the wings take 8 to 10 minutes to finish cooking through).
  • Brush a thin layer of honey over both sides of each wing, and put the lid back on to let the glaze heat up and caramelize on the wings. *(Watch the wings closely to make sure the glaze does not char. Chinese Chicken Wings are ready to serve right off the grill; no need to let them rest. Enjoy our Quick Chinese Chicken Wings!😋🍻

Notes

How to Store & Re-Heat
Properly storing and reheating Chinese Chicken Wings is essential to maintain their flavor and texture. Leftover wings should be cooled to room temperature and stored in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.
Then, you can use the oven, microwave, or stove to reheat the wings. Preheat to 350°F (175°C) in the oven; place the wings on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until heated through and crispy. In the microwave, reheat the wings on high for 1-2 minutes. On the stove, heat them in a skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, occasionally flipping until heated through. Note that a honey glaze may become sticky when stored in the refrigerator, so keep and reheat it separately.
Make-Ahead
If you're looking to make Chinese Chicken Wings ahead of time, there are a few steps you can take to streamline the process. First, marinate the wings a day early and store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container. This will help the flavors to develop and infuse into the meat. Second, you can cook the wings a day ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator or freezer.
Make sure they are completely cooled before storing them in an airtight container. If you're keeping them in the freezer, wrap them tightly in aluminum foil or plastic wrap before placing them in an airtight container. Finally, when you're ready to serve, reheat the wings in the oven, microwave, or stove using one of the above methods. By marinating and cooking the wings ahead of time, you can save time and make meal preparation easier while still enjoying the delicious flavor of Chinese Chicken Wings.
How to Freeze
If you want to freeze Chinese Chicken Wings, following a few key steps to maintain their quality and flavor is essential. First, cool the wings to room temperature and arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet or plate. Next, freeze the wings until firm, which usually takes 1-2 hours. Once frozen, transfer them to an airtight container or resealable plastic bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing.
Label the container or bag with the date and contents, and store them in the freezer for 2-3 months. To thaw the wings, transfer them to the refrigerator overnight. When you're ready to eat them, reheat them in the oven, microwave, or stove using one of the above methods. Remember that freezing may affect the texture of the wings, so they may be slightly less crispy when reheated, but they will still be flavorful and satisfying.
