How to Make Chinese Chicken Wings
Note: The full instructions are provided in the recipe card below.
In a small bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients. Add chicken wings to a large Ziploc bag. Pour in the marinade. Massage a few times to disperse it evenly. Let marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
For Grill Chinese Chicken Wings:
Set up a two-zone fire. Set up your coals in a two-zone configuration. Light your coals and pile them onto one side of your grill, leaving the other empty. You’ll sear the wings on the hot side and let them finish cooking through on the cool side.
Sear the wings on all sides to get nicely browned, crispy skin.*(Chicken skin burns quickly, particularly when the marinade or rub contains high amounts of sugar, so watch them closely and turn them often to prevent scorching).
Once browned on all sides, move the wings over to the cool side of the grill to finish cooking through. Place the lid on the grill and let them cook until the wings reach a safe internal temperature of 165 °F.
* (In general, the wings take 8 to 10 minutes to finish cooking through.) Brush a thin layer of honey over both sides of each wing, and put the lid back on to let the glaze heat up and caramelize on the wings.
*(Watch the wings closely to ensure the glaze does not char. Chinese Chicken Wings are ready to serve right off the grill; no need to let them rest. Enjoy our Quick Chinese Chicken Wings!😋🍻
